About Us

The Pro Wrestling Studies Association (PWSA) is an international network of academics, researchers, and practitioners with a mission to advance the standard of discourse surrounding professional wrestling by critically exploring, and directly engaging with, the various subject areas related. These knowledge areas include but are not limited to:

  • Social commentary

  • Business practice

  • Narrative storytelling, psychology

  • Marketing, community engagement

  • Politics, international relations

  • art or cultural forms 

  • Fandom, identity formation, intersectionality

Through annual symposiums, regular scholarly journal publications, active social engagement, and a presence at live events and professional arenas, the PWSA is dedicated to uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a commitment to the critical examination of professional wrestling as a multifaceted cultural phenomenon. We strive to elevate the visibility of professional wrestling scholarship across academic, media, fan, and industry spaces—ensuring the field is taken seriously and recognized for its cultural significance. By bridging scholars, professionals, and fans, we foster a vibrant community devoted to the learned appraisal of every aspect of professional wrestling.

Meet the Team

    Tunisha Singleton Ph.D.

    PRESIDENT

    Lifelong wrestling fan with a PhD in Media Psychology, Dr. T is an expert in fan identity, community building, and cultural storytelling. As a scholarly-practitioner, she splits her time as a psychology professor at Howard University and a media advisor/producer at FanX Unlimited, her own sports and entertainment consultancy at the intersection of sports and entertainment.

    Gwen Lombard

    JOURNAL EDITOR

    Gwen received her BFA in Creative Writing from the University of Maine at Farmington, and has been a pro wrestling fan nearly her whole life. During her previous experience as a co-editor for the literary anthology The River, she maintained weekly posts recapping the week’s happenings in the wrestling industry.

    Milenna Hövelmeyer

    STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE

    Milenna is a student of political sciences and social anthropology at Heidelberg University (Germany), prospectively graduating October 2025. She is interested in interdisciplinary, original work merging social anthropology, political theory and performance studies. Her Bachelor’s Thesis “Professional Wrestling’s Economized Storytelling: Meritocracy in a Kayfabe-Reality.” explores the social and imaginative construction of the pro-wrestling business both in and outside its performance.

    During her Bachelor’s Degree, she was actively engaged in student competitive debating, where she, among other things, served as president of her debating society (“Rederei e.V.”), as well as adjudicating multiple tournaments (most notably the semi-finals of the German-language Debating Championship 2022). Her creative interests include fiction writing, painting and singing.

    Tracey Elena

    WEB/DIGITAL MEDIA STRATEGIST

    Tracey holds a bachelor’s in Organizational Leadership and a master’s in Instructional Design, bringing together expertise in leadership, education, and digital media. Her professional interests lie at the intersection of media, education, and culture—reflecting a passion for storytelling, subculture, and strategic communication across both academic and creative platforms. 

    As the Administrative Support Coordinator for the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies at Wright State University, Tracey provides essential communication and strategic support across multiple academic programs to ensure an effective organizational flow to help students and faculty thrive in a collaborative scholarly environment. 

    In addition to her university and media work, Tracey is the owner of the indie clothing line Scarlet and Graves, a brand that blends gothic, rebellious, and subcultural aesthetics. The brand is also a proud sponsor of The Wrestling Revolver, helping bridge the intersecting worlds of fashion, performance, and pop culture. She also continues to assist in multiple roles at conventions, expos, and events, receiving unique insight and hands-on experience into what connects and excites audiences from coast to coast.
