Bringing together academics, researchers, practitioners, and passionate fans from across the globe—from the Netherlands and Glasgow, to Los Angeles, New York, Cuba, the UK, and Madrid—this year’s Wrestleposium showcased an extraordinary breadth of scholarship examining professional wrestling through cultural, social, and academic lenses.

Presenters delivered captivating talks on a diverse range of topics including gender dynamics in women’s hardcore matches, performative Americana and propaganda in marketed wrestling events, and even innovative explorations like kayfabe mathematical pedagogy. The depth and originality of these presentations underscored Wrestleposium’s reputation as a leading forum at the intersection of culture and pro wrestling.

Spotlight: Keynote Address by Vance Nevada

We were honored to welcome Vance Nevada as our professional keynote speaker. Vance, a former pro wrestler turned wrestling historian, author, booker, and executive board member of the Cauliflower Alley Club (CAC), brought invaluable insight to the event. The CAC stands as pro wrestling’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to supporting wrestling industry veterans who have given so much entertainment over the years.

As a self-described nerd and lover of history, Vance is a true wrestling historian. In 2022, he published a monumental and critically acclaimed book, (Un)Controlled Chaos: Canada’s Remarkable Professional Wrestling Legacy.

This extensive work highlights Canada’s profound influence on the wrestling world and is a must-read for any fan or scholar interested in wrestling history. You can purchase the book here!

In an intimate conversation, Vance painted a vivid picture of his journey into the wrestling world and highlighted the vital importance of preserving wrestling’s rich cultural and regional histories. He addressed contemporary challenges in wrestling storytelling, critiquing a “laziness” in some current booking practices that rely on discriminatory rhetoric rather than smarter, more respectful ways to generate audience reaction. His call was clear: wrestling can and should push boundaries without resorting to offensive stereotypes or insensitivity.

Vance also shared the inspiring origin story of the CAC, reinforcing its mission to provide authentic, much-needed financial assistance to wrestling professionals facing hardship. Unlike performative gestures, the CAC’s work is deeply grounded in respect and responsibility to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to entertaining fans worldwide. Fully supported by donations and annual fundraising events, the club exemplifies integrity, humility, and gratitude—preserving wrestling’s history while investing in its future.

Mark your calendars: The CAC’s 60th Annual Reunion, celebrating six decades of service to the wrestling community, will be held August 24-26, 2026 at The Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

You are encouraged to support the CAC through donations, membership, or by attending the reunion. Additional details are available on the CAC’s official website here.

Wrestleposium VII once again proved that professional wrestling is a vibrant, dynamic field of cultural inquiry with passionate engagement from around the world. Keep an eye out—some of the best work from this event will soon be published in our Pro Wrestling Studies Journal. We can’t wait to share new conversations, releases, and events with you throughout the year!
