9:50-10:10: “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Billy: The LGBTQ+ community’s evolution in the scope of professional wrestling”
Hunter Reedy is a Political Science graduate student studying at Marshall University in Huntington, WV.
This presentation is a discussion of the beginnings, the current affairs, and the future of the LGBTQ+ community pertaining to the mainstream of professional wrestling, from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Topics from the past (such as the gimmick of the first gay wedding in WWE) will be critiqued, as well as topics from the present (such as the first transgender wrestler winning a major title in AEW). We will look at the goods and the bads, as well as the on-screen and behind the scenes treatments of the LGBTQ+ community.
